Bury the smut

Next time you have a homecoming, please put the smutty photos inside the paper, not splashed on the front cover for all to see.

I work in a high school and did not appreciate what the cropped photo implied.

I would have preferred to have seen some wholesome or patriotic family pictures instead.

Good job

Nikki nailed it. The picture was not dirty; your mind is the tarnished object here.

I didn't see sex in the picture. I thought she was keeping the tag on so she could take them back in the afternoon. I thought it was a commentary on low pay for the sailors.

Smut

Is in the mind and eye of the beholder.

Nose art anyone?

Boy, oh boy! You would have had a heart attack if you could have seen some of that nose art on WW2 bombers. Was that smut? I can't believe you interpreted those pictures that way.

The cropped photo

Ms. Bushey said she teaches highschoolers and does not appreciate what the cropped photo of the hot pink shoes implies. Let's unpack that. Is that meant to say that there should *never* be a sexual undertone to anything, even when it was clearly mentioned that this was a wife awaiting her husband's arrival home?

I am old-fashioned enough to still believe that marital sex is ordained of God and is meant to be a delight for a couple who have committed themselves to each other for an entire lifetime.

I won't "go there" as far as other forms of sexual relationship, but does Ms. Bushey really believe this husband and wife getting together after a deployment is somehow comparable to what her highschoolers do (she mentioned them, so it is fair to ask)? If so, I don't agree. Not at all. Sincerely, Mary G. Martin

Carolyn proves it!

Some people really will complain about ANYTHING!

oh poor carolyn

She must live an extremely boring life. No fun for her to ever play dress-up and look sexy for her returning sailor. Even though I'm not in the armed forces, I would absolutely LOVE to see my girlfriend/fiance/wife looking all beautiful and sexy when I just got back from being away for 7 or 8 months.

Come on, Carolyn!

Lighten up, will you? As I said in an earlier post, I am the wife of a retired military man who also spent many hours standing on a pier desperately struggling for that first glimpse of his face. However, I was dressed too conservatively and stuffy in comparison to the smart, sexy, sassy pink shoes which are totally awesome! This lady was letting her man know she was celebrating his return. How you or anyone else can see smut in that, is baffling to me! With war, recession, reduced housing values, increased food and gas prices, we certainly all need to find things that lift our spirits and minds. This lady's shoes makes me smile...and I would guess many others.

Comment

Well said, retiredguy, excellent point!!

Take a guess

Having returned from nine long deployments during my 31 years in the Navy, the picture of the pink spikes says a lot without wasting words. Who do you think I'd rather have waiting on the pier to meet me after a six month deployment? A woman in pink shoes or the writer of this letter to the editor??

pink shoes

i believe mr. facun's photogragh truly captured the essence of the story. it's not the cold gray steel in the background or the waving flags, it's the people. after a seven month deployment the separation from loved ones is over. the picture is brilliant. people are different and see things how they want to see them. some see "smut" or "cheap shoes", i see joy and elation. the shot was provacative and emotional ( judging by the range of responses ). very nice work mr. facun. t reed 1442 colington rd, kill devil hills, nc, (252)441-7738
