The Stationary Haddock

"A woman without a man is like a fish without a bicycle." Widely attributed to feminist Gloria Steinem in the 1970's, this quote was met by the male response: "Yes, but who needs a stationary haddock?" According to the Stationary Haddock, the answer to that question is: "four animals, for starters!"

The Stationary Haddock, formerly The Shopping Diet Chick, is raising two dogs and two birds in Norfolk. She has been compared to a peanut butter and jelly sandwich: sweet and nutty.

Dinks and Sinks

Last Friday a friend I’ve had since the seventh grade emailed me and indicated that she and her husband, who live in Fairfax, are “DINKs” and plan to stay that way. I had never heard that term before so I asked what it stood for. "Dual Income, No Kids," she replied. NOVA-speak. It appears that in Northern Virginia they acronym-i-cize everything. Too many federal employees and their TFLAs (three or four letter acronyms) up there.

So I wrote back, "I guess that makes me a SINK, maybe I should change the name of my blog to ‘I Am a Sink’.” Better yet- a more accurate description of myself would be a STINK (single, tiny income, no kids). But that, in conjunction with the words “I am a” wouldn't make up a proper sentence. So how about "I am a STINKY person" (single, tiny income, no kids yet)? Or, "I am a STINK-E person" (single, tiny income, no kids ever)?

You know what? I don't want to be known as a stinky person OR a stink-e person and besides that, I’m thinking that I'm spending way too much time thinking about this nonsense.
