Dr. Jerry Nadler starts tomorrow as head of Eastern Virginia Medical School's Department of Internal Medicine, bringing with him new staff and possible local clinical trials for a promising new diabetes combination drug treatment.
EVMS hired Nadler away from the University of Virginia with an $8 million package in the hopes that he will bring in even more in research dollars, new talent and better health care, particularly for diabetics and those with cardiovascular disease.
Nadler said he was seeking funding and FDA approval to test the treatment for Type I Diabetes in humans that in earlier research has proven successful in mice. He’s hoping the clinical trials will take place locally in 2009.

Where's the meat?
Don't they call them "reporters" because they report? How about just a little legwork! Obviously, this guy isn't getting $8 million. At least tell us how many are on his staff and what kind of skills they have? Doctors? technicians? research scientists? And does the 8 mil include equipment? How much lab space will they use?
This sounds like an important and very positive story, but you wouldn't know it from this limited information.
$8 million Per Year? $8
$8 million Per Year? $8 Million in Grants? $8 Million for the Dr., his staff, his facility? Which is it?
The Pilot sure knows how to divulge the facts. Just another "Sensationlized" story by the Pilot with no supporting information for the reader.
