Hokies get another commit for their rapidly growing '09 class

Posted to: College Football Sports

Virginia Tech's 2009 football recruiting class is filling up fast. On Tuesday, the Hokies picked up their fourth commitment in the past three days.

Running back Nubian Peak, a rising senior at Pulaski County High in Dublin, chose Tech hours after receiving a scholarship offer. He impressed the Hokies' coaches at their camp Saturday, running a reported 4.25-second 40-yard dash.

Peak, who's 5-foot-11 and 185 pounds, is something of a sleeper since he's coming from a Group AA school in Southwest Virginia - an area not known for mass-producing Division I prospects. His only other scholarship offer was from Ohio.

As a junior, he ran for 1,349 yards (8.5 per carry), caught 11 passes for 296 yards (26.9 per catch) and returned nine kickoffs for 170 yards (18.8 per return). He finished with 17 total touchdowns.

Peak was recruited as an "athlete," meaning he could play a variety of positions for the Hokies, including receiver and kick returner.

Although Peak has not been heavily recruited by other big schools - and he's not in Rivals.com's initial list of Virginia's top 50 prospects - Tech apparently sees potential. It gave him one of only about a dozen scholarships available this year.

Peak is Tech's fifth commitment in the Class of 2009.
