Man sentenced to 33 years in friend's slaying in Portsmouth

Posted to: Crime News Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH

A Circuit Court judge Friday sentenced a man who was convicted of the August 2006 shooting death of a longtime friend to 33 years in prison and a $30,000 fine.

The sentence was recommended by the jury that found David L. Porter guilty of first-degree murder in January.

The victim, Damon Boone, 24, was chased down and shot several times, even after he had fallen on Deep Creek Boulevard near the Lincoln Park neighborhood.

Before losing consciousness, Boone told police that "D.L.," the nickname he used for Porter, was the shooter. One witness said Porter told him someone had paid him to kill Boone because he was a snitch.

Judge J.A. Cales Jr. also ordered Porter to serve five years of post-release supervision.
