Man sentenced for carrying weapon at N.C. high school

Posted to: Crime News North Carolina

A former John A. Holmes High School student was sentenced to four months in prison for carrying a firearm on school campus last year.

Terrance Copeland, 19, of Edenton, pleaded guilty in federal court in March. He faced a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

Copeland was arrested May 10, 2007 after school resource officers at the Edenton high school said they saw the high school student gambling and flashing money, according to a news release from the U.S. Department of Justice.

When he was searched, officers found a Bersa Thunder 40-caliber handgun, which Copeland had recently purchased.

It was one of several that had been stolen earlier that day from Bob’s Guns and Coins in Edenton, the news release said.
