If you plan to drive on Interstates 95 or 81 this weekend, be aware that the state police will be watching you.
On Friday state police will launch Operation Air, Land and Speed, a two-day enforcement campaign that will put more troopers on the roads and in the air along the entire length of I-95 and I-81 in Virginia.
The last operation of this kind netted almost 9,000 summons and arrests, police said.

It has been proven over and over that many things cause more accidents than speeding but, speeding is the easiest to prosecute.
Overt speeding is another matter. But as the second Mark pointed out, don't break the laws of the road and you will have no problems.

State Troopers were active this morning on 64 and 264 also. Tailgaters where everywhere, but the troopers were pulling over speeders, and there was plenty of them.

Tailgating (not speeding) is the leading cause of accidents. I hope the troopers give out lots of tickets to tailgaters.
Yes, your car may be capable of 75 mph, but if the speed limit is 55 mph, you need to slow down. Slower speeds save you money because you burn less gas at lower speeds due to less drag from wind resistance.

Plenty of reckless people with no regard within these borders, just itching to spend their paychecks on fines and court costs instead of gas, food, and housing. We want crime to pay with every offense ticketed, an all out show of force by all Virginia Police Officers beyond when the civil remuneration law went into effect. Demonstrating Virginia's leadership in America for civility and responsible citzenry. We want the roadsides filled with violators, the courtrooms filled, and the treasuries filled! Time Virginia tightened up in a BIG way.
How many more cruisers and troopers?
I wonder how many police cruisers and additional troopers we would have if we weren't wasting money on this silly bear in the air thing? Do you know how much it cost to buy, maintain and man an aircraft? I'd bet we'd get quite a bit more use and service out of the cruisers and troopers than we do out of an aircraft, pilot, maintenance team and maintenance cost. Just my thought, I like to get more punch for my buck.

Police don't have quotas, they can write as many tickets as they want. The other Mark has it right, don't break the traffic laws and you don't get stopped. There are plenty of others for the police to stop who will be speeding and not wearing seatbelts. Get em all troopers!!!
It's simple
If you drive over the speed limit on those highways, there's a good chance you're going to get a ticket. If you're not buckled up, there's a good chance you're going to get a ticket. Obey the laws and you'll be fine, it's that simple.
Why this weekend?
I'm assuming they will also be out in force the next weekend (4th July weekend)...duh... or maybe they're trying to get that quota of tickets for the last weekend in June...they should call this Operation Bankroll...
