SUFFOLK
The Suffolk Humane Society will hold its first Mutt Strut Dog Walk & Festival on Sept. 21, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Sleepy Hole Park.
Events will include police and bomb dog demonstrations, a dog-trick workshop, agility demonstrations, canine games and contests, raffles and prizes, food, exhibitors, and representatives from more than 30 animal rescue groups and shelters.
In addition to the festival events, the Suffolk Humane Society is soliciting people and teams to register for the walkathon to raise money to build a homeless animal shelter in Suffolk.
Pre-registration starts today and continues through Sept. 5. Registration is $15 and walkers will receive pledge packets, which include fundraising ideas, team building tips and a free personal fundraising Web page.
Registration is available online at www.suffolkhumanesociety.com.
"We are encouraged by our community's outpouring of support for its Humane Society," says Angela Chandler, Suffolk Humane executive director. "Our goal is to raise $100,000-plus in order to expand services as well as begin looking for a site to house the first-ever, nonprofit animal shelter in Suffolk."
