Name that 'cane

Don't know how I missed it, but the 2008 Hurricane Name List blew in under my radar - until I got the following message from a keen-eyed reader:

Forgive me if you've already noticed this about the list ...but Hurricane Nana?  How are we going to explain to little Johnnie that it was not his grandmother who wiped out that city?

She's right. If we get 14 named storms in the Atlantic this year we'll actually be tracking a monster called Hurricane Nana. (You can almost smell the rose water...)

Seems to me officials have trouble enough getting folks to evacuate when a hurricane is bearing down, without giving them lovable names.

No one's going to leave when they hear that Nana's coming to town. Or Dolly. Or Teddy. Or Vicky.

Take a look at the 2008 Atlantic storm monikers. See if any intimidate you:

Arthur, Bertha, Cristobal, Dolly, Edouard, Fay, Gustav, Hanna, Ike, Josephine, Kyle, Laura, Marco, Nana, Omar, Paloma, Rene, Sally, Teddy, Vicky and Wilfred.

re: those names

All about names (and yes they are recycled unless they are removed):

Those names

Look awfully familiar...esp. Bertha & Gustav. I'm sure these names have been used recently. I guess we can just keep recycling storm names. Nana? Lol...I wonder who the genius was who thought of that one for a storm. What are the parameters used for coming up w/these names?

Arthur

Don't forget to mark Arthur off your list.

He already formed and died...

Wilfred

Wilfred is a good name. I had a dog named Wilfred.

I don't know...

Bertha and Gustav, definitely. I think they should give them all Arabic names and change the ratings from categories to some whacky color system.
