An assistant police chief in another North Carolina town has accepted the job as Kill Devil Hills' new police chief.
Gary L. Britt of Morrisville has more than 20 years of experience in law enforcement, according to Kill Devil Hills officials. He served as assistant police chief in Elizabethtown, N.C., before moving to Morrisville. While living in Elizabethtown, he worked for 16 years in a variety of positions, including K-9 handler, criminal and narcotics investigator and emergency response team leader.
Britt, a graduate of Mount Olive College in Wilmington and the University of Phoenix, has been a firearms and physical fitness instructor with the North Carolina Department of Justice Criminal Justice Standards Division since 1993. He succeeds former Chief Ray Davis, who retired in March.
Britt, whose annual salary will be $75,000, will start work July 14.
