NORFOLK

Conway Henry Rohan, 41, was convicted Monday of assault and battery in connection an incident that left a man dead.

Rohan, as he is identified in online court records, but known to the city jail as Rohan Conway Henry, stood trial on charges of lynching by a mob and second-degree murder. Judge Everett A. Martin Jr. dismissed the lynching charge and acquitted him of murder, but convicted him Monday of the lesser offense.

Rohan was one of four people charged in the Oct. 15, 2006, death of Devon Brathwaite, 23. Brathwaite was stabbed during a fight in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3160 in the 100 block of A View Ave.

Two other men have been convicted of assault charges, and a case against another man is pending.

Rohan was sentenced Monday to 12 months in jail. That sentence has been served, but he was being held Tuesday for federal immigration authorities, said Bonita Harris, a jail spokeswoman.
