NORFOLK
The School Board on Wednesday night approved a $330.2 million operating budget for the year beginning July 1.
The plan was $1 million less than what school leaders requested from the City Council earlier this year. Because the school division stands to receive more money from the state, however, no programs will be cut or reduced, said Jane Pellegrino, the school division's senior budget director.
The budget includes a $5.6 million plan that provides raises of 2.4 to 8.5 percent for teachers in the salary scale's first seven steps and 0.4 to 1.4 percent for teachers in the other 12 steps. An added stipend of 0.6 to 1.6 percent will go to teachers set to receive raises of less than 2 percent.
The plan earmarks new money for a summer algebra academy and a program to keep suspended students on track academically.
