Staff report

The Charlotte Knights battered Craig Anderson for 11 hits and eight runs as the visiting Norfolk Tides dropped their fourth straight, 8-1 on Monday night in Fort Mill, S.C.

Anderson (1-5) lasted 4 1/3 innings, chased by Javier Castillo's two-run triple that made it 7-0. His ERA ballooned to 8.81 when Charlotte (34-44) extended its lead to 8-0 on an RBI grounder surrendered by Tides reliever Alberto Castillo.

Eider Torres' RBI single in the sixth inning was all the scoring the Tides (28-49) could muster. Norfolk was stifled by Charlotte starter Clayton Richard (3-0), who allowed all five Norfolk hits in six innings.

Charlotte relievers Tomo Ohka and Jason Childers combined for three perfect innings. Javier Castillo and Noah Hall each had three RBIs for Charlotte; Castillo, Danny Richar and David Cook each added two runs. Jason Bourgeois had a solo homer to lead off the fifth.

The teams play the second game of their four-game set at 12:15 p.m. today. Norfolk lefthander Randy Keisler (0-1, 6.75 ERA) is slated to face Charlotte righty Jack Egbert (2-6, 5.89).
