Portsmouth considers raising its school lunch prices

 PORTSMOUTH

Portsmouth officials are considering raising lunch prices by as much as 40 cents to help pay for rising food costs and to help pay to replace and repair antiquated cafeteria equipment.

Under the proposal, lunch prices would rise to $1.25 at all schools next school year and to $1.50 in the 2009-2010  and 2010-2011 school year.

Here's an idea

City council took away Mayor Holleys vehicle why doesn't the School Board take away the vehicles and gas from the top administrators, especially those that live at the beach.

Too many free lunches- the mothers are bums!

My goodness, some children stay on the free lunch program all 13 years of school. This is disgracful. It's not the childs fault. These so-called mothers keep pumping out babies because they know we will feed them. The free ride should end. I wouldn't know how to do it without hurting the innocent children so i guess we are stuck paying school lunches for fatherless kids who have mothers who just don't have any pride and keep having fatherless babies. I'm sick of these freeloaders, the mothers are bums!

no more!!!!!

No More "FREE" lunches!!!!! I am tired of paying for other peoples kids to eat for free when I have to pay for mine !!! Cut them off of welfare and send them out into the real world to get a job to support their own kids!!!

No school lunch for my youngin's

The school menu is not nutrious at all! I care too much about my children's health to allow them to eat these school meals. I prepare my childrens lunch every day aftere they tell me what they would like in their lunch bag. Further more, they carry no money so there's no shake down while in school unless someone actually wants their lunch food and i encourage my children to share what they bring. Not to many want their yogurt or rice cakes and peanut butter, sliced fruit, and bottled water. Yep as a parent I am living up to my responsibility to my own.

Accounts need to be on-line!

Finding out the balance of your child's account is a nightmare!

Pre-pay

I would also consider having parents pre-pay for lunches by the beginning of each month. Offering a 10% cut in the rate for pre-paying might help prevent freeloading.
