I saw that!!!

Ahno and Porque volunteer all over town, babysit grandkids, do projects, have far too much fun saying what they think.

Smoked Out

I can’t stand it any more. Last night when I heard the storm and torrential rain, I thought, “Yay! This might spare me further smoke inhalation,” but no. Waking this morning, I looked across the street where smoke hangs heavy between me and the houses over there.

Are poor suckers that get stuck in Norfolk all summer condemned to cough until fall rain douses the smoke? Looks that way. There’s this apathetic, “We can’t do anything about it,” attitude at work.

Fire workers have “contained” the flames. Whoopeedoo. How’s that flame-containment an advantage for me? It’s smoke that I can’t tolerate. Given that smoke has to be a problem for many thousand people, why aren’t those fires being put out?

Well…I give up. I’m leaving town. When I get back, if it’s still smokey here, I’ll leave again. Enough, already! Our family has a place in the Allegheny mountains of western Pennsylvania and I’m going there until…hopefully…the smoke clears. We’ll probably leave this weekend after the kids’ dance recital.

I don’t know about you, but my eyes are running, the back of my throat burns, and my sinuses are about to burst. Yesterday at one point, I coughed until I threw up. This is outrageous. Smoke is a real health hazard, but we have to wait for the smoke fairy to show up and wave a wand. North Carolina fire fighters can’t handle this challenge.

yes I am offended

it is unbelievable to blame firefighters for a fire. Until you have fought them, you should probably not tell them how to do their job. There really isn't much that can be done, no matter how much the firefighters want the fire to be put out. We are in the midst of drought conditions and have been for two years. The fires burn underground, do you want to bring in heavy equipment to dig up all the earth a few feet at a time to put it out before digging up the next few feet? Where would the environmentalists stand on that?

There is no incompetence at play here, unless someone started the fires on purpose or accidently.

The fires

Oh. I think someone was offended. Either way the fires are horrible. My boss, his wife and I are all getting headaches from the fires, my allergies, which were just clearing up, are back and in full force. Isn't the one south of the Dismal Swamp in NC as well? That's what it looks like on the news when they show the doppler thing. Of course, I don't know, and frankly don't care. The fires need to be put out the best that they can. You can't just give up and wait several months for them to go out on their own. There are way too many people suffering from this. Nobody's complaining about a little bit of coughing and sneezing, if they are, screw them, but coughing until you throw up, or migrains after being outside for 20 minutes is ridiculous, PLUS another 3-4 months at least of it!?!

Are you sure

that the smoke isn't from the fire in Virginia? Or, are NC firefighters the only incompetents? I am offended by your judgment of the firefighters skills, I am also pretty sure that it won't ruin your day. You've lived long enough to realize that sometimes you can't just wave a magic wand and the fire dissapears. Yes, it is a bad situation, and we all know that there are people who are suffering. The best thing to do is to do exactly what you propose if you can. Leave town and hope for the best.

BTW, Just because you own two Chihuahuas that have been abused, I would never say that all Chihuahua owners are incompetent, or that Chihuahua owners in VA are incompetent.
