RICHMOND
The state trials of Michael Vick and three co-defendants on dogfighting charges will be postponed until the men are freed from federal prison, the Surry County prosecutor said.
Commonwealth's Attorney Gerald Poindexter said it is not worth the expense for the county to either pay to have two deputies travel to each of the states where the men are being held and escort the prisoners back, or to ask U.S. marshals to do it and then charge the county for their expenses.
Vick and the others face charges of beating or killing dogs, or causing dogs to fight other dogs, and engaging in or promoting dogfighting.
Each felony is punishable by as much as five years in prison.
Only one of the four defendants, Tony Taylor, has been released. His trial in Surry County is now scheduled for July 26.

RE:relax
"As far as the animal rights groups..how many time do we read of them doing the same thing they go after peole for doing.."dumping dead dogs in N.C."
So lets get off of our moral high horse and leave the guy alone"
The sad part about this is you are probably very serious. There is a big difference in dumping dead dogs then using smaller dogs as bait for trained killer dogs, and then letting dogs fight until they kill one another, but you aren't going to understand that. You might try some moral high ground it will do you some good. Vick went after defenseless dogs for the sport of watching them kill each other. WOW! Now ain't he the man!
Relax
Now. while i am not the type person to cruelly beat animals, I also am not the type of person to put the value of an animal above a person either. Yeah it was bad what he did but he did not kill a person. He has not done anything else wrong. I feel he has paid enough. Let me tell you this.. alot of people who read this site are probably doing stuff much worse than what Vick did.The difference is they are not famous. The only winner here is the investigator that "broke" the case and the media who rode the gift horse to the bank. This story would not have been mentioned twice if it happened to a normal "Joe" on the street.

Commonwealth's Attorney Gerald Poindexter said it is not worth..
..Brother Poindexter never has been to wild about getting the Boys back to Surry County!
when you sign the contract
you better know the rules. I think he should never play ball again. period. He know what he did was wrong morally, and also against his contract. I'm sick to death hearing about giving him another chance cuz of circumstances of his life. Ignorance is no excuse, so feigned ignorance is definitely not an excuse. Oh, I also hope the state tries him and throws him in state prison also, instead of a namby pampy federal joint.
Vick's crime was
Vick's crime was hideous in nature, and my opinion it takes a really sick person to engage in such activity. As part of his punishment he should be required to go through a few 1000 hours of intense therapy to get to the root of his problem. As far as the NFL, NO! He should never play again. Will Surry County's fearless take the case back to court, probably not. That say's a lot about the poeple in genrral of Surry County, and that's not a good thing. Poindexter, is a sad representation for a beautiful area.
LEARNED HIS LESSON
we all know what he did was wrong. he knows what he did was wrong. i think he learned his lesson. let him play football.
Suspended Sentences
I'm ready to bet 10 to 1 odds that they all get suspended sentences (worst case) if Brother Poindexter ever takes them to trial; and, they will get credit for time served on the federal side.
Vick
While Vick is playing big man in his playpen, these dogs are still suffering. While I don't believe he needs to do anymore jail time once he gets out,I do believe he needs to be kicked out of the NFL.He knew the rules going into the game, now he must abide by them.No gambling,no betting.Ask Pete Rose how that worked out for him.
Swept Under the Rug, Again
late to file the charges, and now, the county is going to wait until they get out of prison. Yeah, another delay so that Poindexter can quietly sweep it under the rug. It's nothing like having a brother on your side in the County Justice Department.
not nice pilot!
