The School Board will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. tonight.
Members will hear updates on the implementation of the International Baccalaureate program and the school division’s Crisis Management Plan.
They will also set dates for board meetings during the 2008-09 school year and discuss future plans for career and technical education.
The meeting will take place in City Council Chambers in the municipal building, 441 Market Street.

Maybe this meeting would be a good time to open discussion
This meeting is good timing to open discussion for changing the school year to begin the week after Labor Day and end the week before Memorial Day. It seems that the last few weeks of school are a total waste and just put there so that the required number of days will be met. Why not extend the school day by fifteen minutes and knock off the days after Memorial Day? This will be a tremendous saving in fuel and use of busses and will save in operating cost of the school buildings. It's time to put a little brain in the operation of our schools. Let's stop doing all the feel good programs and get back to the basics of valuable learning. Maybe take a good look at allowing Juniors and Seniors to take college English, Science, Math, Government and History courses at local Community Colleges in place of their high school courses. It seems some other schools in the area offer this for their more advanced students and it is working out well. This will allow students to have a huge savings in the cost of their college education.
