Tide gate testing Sunday night at Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel

Posted to: News Transportation and Traffic

The tide gate will be tested Sunday night at the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel.

The Virginia Department of Transportation will do the routine testing from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m., stopping traffic for 30-minute intervals for the tests, according to a VDOT news release.

The first closure will occur some time between 11 p.m. and 12 a.m. Monday on the Hampton side of the tunnel, the release says. The second closure will occur some time between 12 a.m. Monday and 1 a.m. on the Norfolk side.

The times could vary, VDOT says. If weather conditions prevent testing Sunday, it will be done Monday night, beginning at 11 p.m.

The agency was suggesting that drivers use Interstate 664 as an alternate route.

Huh

And why on Sunday? This is a day when people are coming and going for vacations, either here or elsewhere. How stupid can you be VDOT?

yes. It might be easier on

yes.

It might be easier on you if you stop expecting logic from government.

I for one am surprised they did it before the first hurricane.

Testing now?

Shouldn't these gates be tested well before the Atlantic Hurricane Season start date?
Testing a month or more in advance permits VDOT to find problems with gate operations, troubleshoot/order/replace the part(s), then retest.
