Andy Mitchell tossed six strong innings and visiting Norfolk hit a pair of home runs, helping the Tides snap a five-game losing streak with a 6-1 win over the Charlotte Knights on Wednesday night.
Mitchell (7-4) earned his team-leading seventh win, allowing a run on six hits in six innings.
The game was scoreless until the sixth, when Chris Roberson hit a two-run homer. Later in the inning, Jeff Fiorentino singled, stole second and came around to score on a throwing error by Charlotte starter Wes Whisler (8-5).
After the Knights closed within 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth, the Tides extended their lead with three more runs in the eighth. Eider Torres led off with a solo home run, and Omir Santos added a two-run single.
