MANTEO

Two brothers suffered gunshot wounds after an apparent disagreement with another man Tuesday night, police said.

Michael E. Thrash Jr., 20, was shot once in the upper left arm, according to a news release Wednesday from the Dare County sheriff's office. Derek H. Nelson, 16, was shot once in the left groin area.

The incident happened about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday at their residence in the area of Bernice Avenue and Jackson Street, police said.

Thrash was treated at The Outer Banks Hospital and released, police said. Nelson was flown by Dare MedFlight to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Lt. Bill Godley with the sheriff's office said Nelson was reported in serious condition, but that his wound was not believed to be life-threatening.

Godley said the brothers told police the firearm was shot by one individual during an argument among three or four people. No one has been arrested. The incident is still under investigation, Godley said.
