Uplifting theft: A forklift is missing from Norfolk business

Posted to: Crime News Norfolk

NORFOLK

No screeching wheels in this heist.

Police are on the lookout for a stolen forklift. Top speed: 15 mph.

"We’ve never had it happen," said P.I. Haynsworth, owner of Atlantic Lift Systems, a 43-year-old business at 5736 Sellger Drive in the southeastern part of the city. "It’s most disconcerting."

It’s also not cheap: The used 2004 Toyota model with the muscle to hoist 3,000 pounds would sell for $9,000 to $11,000, Haynsworth said.

It apparently was taken sometime between June 6 and June 20, when it was discovered missing from a warehouse. There was no evidence of a break-in, police reported Wednesday.

Haynsworth hopes someone will spot the lifted lift and call him or police – Crime Line is 1-888-562-5887, or 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.

It’s orange and gray, with the typical two lift bars in front.
