VIRGINIA BEACH

A cabinet installer from Virginia Beach has been arrested and faces felony charges in Mississippi of home repair fraud related to work on a house damaged by Hurricane Katrina.

The Mississippi attorney general’s office said Kevin Riggs, 32, received money to replace cabinets for a homeowner in Woolmarket, Miss., but never did the work.

Riggs, who was arrested in Virginia Beach on May 29, turned himself in to Mississippi authorities Monday.

His hearing is set for August.

Riggs has paid the homeowner $10,000 in restitution, said Jan Schaefer, a spokeswoman for the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.

He has paid back about $25,000 to two other homeowners who lodged similar complaints, Schaefer said.
