COROLLA

Two people were hospitalized and northbound N.C. 12 was shut down to traffic Thursday afternoon following a wreck involving a car and a Pepsi truck.

The crash happened about 3:30 p.m. when a northbound Chevrolet Cavalier crossed the center line of the two-lane road near the Hampton Inn & Suites and collided with the Pepsi truck, which then flipped over, said Trooper E. J. Forbes of the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

The driver of the Cavalier was identified as Jacob Lee Bradley, 18, of Chesterfield, Va. He was flown to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville, Forbes said.

His passenger, Lacy Jane Duty, 17, of Richmond, was taken to The Outer Banks Hospital, he said.

The driver of the Pepsi truck was identified as Robert N. Bryant, 52, of Elizabeth City. He had a minor injury to his hand but did not ask for treatment, Forbes said.

The wreck is under investigation; no charges had been filed.
