Accident slows traffic near Wright Memorial Bridge

Posted to: News Traffic - Transportation North Carolina

One man was injured in a two-vehicle accident on Thursday that backed up traffic in Currituck County north of the Wright Memorial Bridge for more than an hour.

A 2000 Chevrolet van and a 1987 BMW were traveling northbound on U.S. 158 at about 11:30 a.m. when the van, driven by Enrique Detorres, 51 of Powells Point, slowed down to make a right onto Pan Ridge Court, said North Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper E.J. Forbes.

The van was struck in the rear by the BMW, driven by Michael Wilson, 49, of Grandy, Forbes said. Forbes said the BMW ran into the left shoulder of Pan Ridge Court, traveled to the center turning lane of U.S. 158 and came to rest on southbound U.S. 158.

Wilson was transported by helicopter to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He was reported to be in stable condition.
