KILL DEVIL HILLS

Kill Devil Hills police said Monday they believe drugs and alcohol were a factor in a three-vehicle crash Saturday that injured five people.

Police plan to turn over their findings to the district attorney, police Sgt. Allen Holland said.

A Kill Devil Hills man driving a pickup south in the center turn lane of U.S. 158 crashed into a car which was stopped facing north at 12:58 p.m. Saturday, Holland said.

The stopped car then hit another car that was stopped behind it.

A woman and two girls in the first car and a girl in the second car were hurt; injuries were not life-threatening, Holland said.

The woman was flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where she was in good condition Monday night, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The pickup driver had minor injuries, police said.

He was using the center lane as a travel lane, but the reason is still be investigated, Holland said.

“We do anticipate charges. They’re just pending the outcome of the investigation,” he said.
