Amphitheater gridlock

Billy Joel's June 21 performance was worth the money, but the Verizon Amphitheater in Virginia Beach could not handle the crowd.

After the performance, ticket holders tried to find their way through the darkness to their cars. No one could see where they were going, as they were leaving along the path out of the arena area.

It also took at least an hour to get out of the parking lot. Nothing was even well lit by the concessions.

no fan

I'm no fan of the parking situation at the VWVBA, but I'm no fan of any area venue when it comes to getting in and out. I've been to Chrysler Hall, Scope, Hampton Col, Portsmouth Pavilion, etc... In every case I have to mentally prepare myself to the traffic headaches to come. I think that the VWVBA does an adequate job dealing with traffic, all things considered. (Yes lighting could be improved.)

Previous letters have also unfairly criticized traffic on Princess Anne Rd approaching the VWVBA. It's grossly unfair to blame the VWVBA for congestion on city streets.

Word to the wise: If you're driving to a concert venue, plan for traffic. I've known this since I was a teenager.
