BERTIE COUNTY, N.C.

A 26-year-old man was arrested early this morning and charged with first-degree murder.

Kendall Floyd Riddick, of Colerain, was taken into custody by officers from the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation shortly after midnight today. He was being held at the Bertie Martin Regional Jail without bond, said Bertie County Sheriff Greg Atkins.

His arrest comes five days after police found the body of Jessica Riddick, 19, lying next to her car in a wooded area near Blackrock Road.  Atkins said a preliminary autopsy indicates Jessica Riddick died of two stab wounds to her stomach.

He also said he has not yet verified if Jessica Riddick and Kendall Riddick are related.

Kendall Riddick is scheduled to make his first court appearance Wednesday.
