VIRGINIA BEACH

Virginia Beach police Monday night identified the woman found dead in a townhouse as Brenda L. Messina, 32.

Police said her death is suspicious.

Police were called to the scene at the 3500 block of Sir Wilfred Place at about

1:59 p.m., said Virginia Beach police spokeswoman Margie Long.

Messina lived at the house. It was not immediately clear to police how she died, Long said.

No one else was in the house when police arrived, Long said.

Jim Miller, a neighbor, said a man and woman rented the house. He said they moved in five or six months ago.

Beach police were called to the same house at 10:12 a.m. Sunday after a report of an argument, Long said. She did not have further information.

A white SUV was parked in the driveway Monday afternoon. The trunk and two of the vehicle's doors were open. The front door of the house also was open. Neighbors said they saw the SUV parked there with its doors open since early Monday morning.

Police are waiting on a medical examiner to determine the cause of death, Long said.
