Big man has gotten bigger!

My doctor summoned me to his office last week and had a real heart to heart discussion with me regarding my current physical state.  After maxing out the "bovine" scale at 327 lbs. he gave me his professional opinion as to how long I could expect to live.  He told me that that the average life expectancy of an NFL linebacker (my physical brothers- in- lard) is some where around 52 years... that translated into, Rob get your affairs in order!  For me, there's something inherently wrong with possessing the knowledge and experience to do something and then not doing it.  Especially when the lack of definitive action almost guarantees an early exit from this wondrous thing we call life.  I have to thank Deb Markum for being more than patience with my "ice cold" blog space.  The truth of the matter is consciously and subconsciously I found it very difficult to make the time to blog when I knew that I was not living up to my full potential.  Dr. Bethea and I made a gentleman's agreement that if within one year I refuse to help myself by getting this bloated corporeal ballast back into shape, that I would then agree to go under the knife and undergo the gastric bypass procedure.  It's that plain and simple, I either develop a sincere love for a disciplined life or continue my current love affair with excuses, mystery foods and excuses and prepare to check out of here in about three years!!!  Time will tell.  Talk to you soon Hampton Roads family.      Rob

I Know It's Hard...Bless You!

I was intrigued by your blog, as I am also fighting a weight loss/gain problem. Don't beat yourself up, just look at Oprah. Now this might sound funny, but if she, who has a gazillion bucks to pay for personal trainers, cooks, personal mamagers, etc. cannot seem to keep her weight down, why should we regular stiffs be surprised at our failure? That being said, I think the "Oprah lesson" is this--we have to figure out why we do this to ourselves, and learn to substitute another stress-relieving activity for eating. Also, we have to be aware that change can be frightening as well as exhilarating. I believe that I have gained weight back because I was scared that I could not live up to my "new image". I see your Dr. has given you a year and then it's Gastric bypass.(forgive my caps)DON'T DO IT!! It ruins your skin, hair, and weakens your body. I'm not going to go that route, and I pray you don't either. Peace and Happiness, Carol
