since moving to VA from CA 2 years ago we have watched the improvements at Buckroe and as residents in the area, we are pleased. its too bad the dog park area has been removed to make way for new construction & parking, i wonder if they will be putting in another one? i hope so, because while i like dogs & want to see them have a place to run & play, i don't want them on the beach. i don't love YOUR dog as much as YOU do, nor do i trust it around the children. behavior aside, kids are more precious than animals. we spend a lot of time at the beach, rain or shine, summer or winter - its part of our neighborhood and extention of our backyard so to speak. for those of you that visit, if you make a mess, please clean it up. i don't care what the reputation of buckroe USED to be, i wasn't here then, but its getting nicer & nicer - it takes all of us to keep it clean & safe. come & enjoy - you won't be disappointed.

i used to love going to the beach, so today since is was my only day off from school and work i decided to take the half an hour drive even with the gas prices. I decided to take my small four pound well trained dog along with me. When we got there we were having a great time the weather was nice my dog was very excited and i was spending time with my older sister then after about 10 min. of being there some woman comes up and says "you can not have your dog on the beach!" so we went to walk her on the board walk and some man walks up and says "you can not have your dog at the park!" its supposed to be a family park my dog is just as much a part of my family as my mother and she is much better behaved then those little kids iv seen on the beach who use the bathroom in the sand and scream non stop!!! i wasted my only day off from school and in all drove an hour to spend 10 min there before i felt unwelcome.

I hadn't been to Buckroe Beach since I was a child - had an opportunity to stop there since there were small craft advisories (I'm a member of FBC- had a boat reservation) and had to wait it out. The beach is clean, much more quiet than VA Beach, peaceful; loved the jetty, has a playground for children.... my friend locked her keys in the car; although AAA came out to help, it was the nice gentleman from the Park Svc who rescued the keys and refused tips - I was very impressed... am planning to visit over Labor Day weekend with my boyfriend and his daughter (who is very excited about the playground!) Kudos to cleaning up and maintaining this beach!!!

I think Buckroe Beach is a excellent area for walking, taking the kids out to play or just sitting and enjoying the scenery.

i've heard lots of good things about this park. So my famliy went one weekend. This was the most horibble experience ever.1st we couldn't find parking. 2nd of all my husband was walking our dog and 14 month old when a senior couple told him he had to leave, and they were not very friendly about it. apparently our dog wasn't a member to be at the dog area and no kids are allowed. 3rd a police told my husband and us we had to leave cause of our dog. when ask why he said our dog wasn't registered to be at the park we need to be members to bring our dog. asked how to become members he said we need to pay a fee and fill out paperwork to show proof of ownership and tags. i was like our dog has his tags on his collar. after 15 mins of pure hell. we left and swear never to got there again. nice or not.

Buckroe is for swimming and laying out only. The only way you can do any of the other activities is to rent them from the city. You can Windsurf if you know someone in the area that will let you park in there drive way. If you want to expierence Buckroe better do it this year. The city just sold half of the public parking.

It is a wonderful beach, however giving people tickets for having coolers on the beach is down right wrong. I was asked to let a police officer search my cooler. I refused so I recieved a ticket. This is a violation of the 4th amendment of the U. S. Constitution.

I grew up in Buckroe Beach and my husband and I recently retured after 40 years for a visit. I am very pleased at the progress! Even though things have changed tremendously...the beauty of the friendly community is still there. As stated in an earlier post, I would love to see the pier reopened...but overall it is still the place where I spent "the best years of my life". I can't wait to get back during our vacation this summer!

I have a summer home in Hampton a few blocks from the beach. Hampton's Buckroe beach is a great place for families. It is practically undiscovered by all who go to Va Beach. Hampton's Buckroe community is beggining to see a new era. I recommend it highly for those who prefer the peacefulness of a community beach.

As I read the reviews of our local beach I am troubled by all the comments on jelly fish - this is a condition that happens during warm water. If you want to avoid the jelly fish you should go to the beach during the early or late part of summer. This is a great beach! Glad to live so close to a low crime area beach!

Nice and inviting. Only thing about it, that they need to finish the construction by the hotel.

This beach is great! I went there on a Saturday in July, and I thought parking would be an issue, but we found free parking fairly close to the water. The beach was not real crowded despite it being a perfect beach day. This beach is my new favorite. There were some jellyfish, but no one in my group of 7 had any problems with them.

I just visited Buckroe beach this summer and I was impressed! Perhaps it was the time of day (mid morning) and on a weekday. I noticed lots of construction going on (a newly constructed pier was included, it seemed). I wish I had known about this beach sooner because it is an alternative to making the extra trek to Virginia Beach (I love VB too). I plan to return to Buckroe beach! And I certainly hope I don't encounter any crime mentioned in the earlier reviews.

Buckroe beach is a scary place to visit. Bad language abounds, fights on the beach, drugs every were, not a place to bring children, muddy park, the only redeaming factor is the view and the large police presance.

Buckroe beach is a joke, hardly any parking and then 3 hrs, what can you do in three hours, unpack car and repack again, times up!. More Hampton police are down at beach then in their city, patrolling streets. This used to be a good beach many a year ago, couldn't think of why anyone would wast their time going. I guess if you live within walking distance its great, parking keeps anyone not from area away!

Buckroe is nice long stretch of beach that seems like a hub for locals. This is a great place for people who are fed up with the traffic and crowds caused by tourists in VA beach. There is also a large grassy park and a playground for children.

Lived here since 1945 and have seen many changes. Recent changes proposed by the city will change my star rating. Wait till they build Condos in and around the beach front what little parking is there now will be used and it will be all down hill from there on. I won't be here to see it because of my age. I have enjoyed it to this point of life.

The beach is nice but going into the water was literally rocky. I've also never seen a "park" with so few trees. Then, to stroll around the place was not cool. The neighborhood around the beach is scary. Beachfront trailers homes, cars on lawns, drunks in street. The Chesapeake Bay Foundation apparently doesn't visit this place. Yuk.
