The Virginian-Pilot

Dear Sen. Obama,
Sorry to bother you, I know how busy you are. But please, oh please, pick Gov. Tim Kaine as your running mate.
If it's not too much trouble, do it soon. The convention starts in just 26 days.
Speaking of the Democratic National Convention, I'll be there! It would add a delicious dash of excitement for those of us at the newspaper if you were to put a Virginian on the ticket.
Don't do it just for us. There are other good reasons to grab our gov.
First of all, you may have heard that Virginia is called "The Mother of Presidents." That's because four of the first five were from Virginia, and more followed.
But do you have any idea how long it's been since a favorite son was vice president?
According to my research, it's been 167 years. Since John Tyler was William Henry Harrison's second banana. In 1841.
Sen. Obama, wouldn't you say our time has come?
Here's another argument for Kaine: You say you want to reach across the aisle and work with Republicans. There is no better way to feel the love from Virginia's GOP than to pluck this Dem from the governor's mansion and let Republican Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling move in for the final year of his term.
Don't take my word for it. Earlier this week, University of Virginia's Larry Sabato predicted that if you selected Kaine, it could make the other side giddy.
"Bolling would quickly move to put his own stamp on state government with a new Cabinet, agency heads and board appointments," the pundit wrote.
When I talked to him Wednesday, Sabato said there was no question that Bolling would be constitutionally permitted to run in 2009 as an incumbent.
That sounds good for the GOP, but at least one local Republican official said the move would create chaos in some well-laid campaign plans.
"We already have the (McDonnell-for-Governor/Bolling-for-Lt. Gov.) bumper stickers printed," groaned Second District Republican Chairman Gary Byler on Wednesday.
"We are very pleased with the ticket we've assembled for '09, and we're content to let the governor serve out his term."
Bumper stickers?
But back to your big decision, Senator.
Everyone knows you desperately want to win Virginia. Your advisers may be telling you that with our gov on the ticket, the state turns blue.
Sabato said Kaine's approval rating is in the neighborhood of 55 percent, "good enough for a percentage point or two," in the general election.
In a close vote, that may be all it takes.
Some critics will tell you that Kaine has accomplished nothing as governor. So what? Look at it this way: His anemic record won't overshadow your own.
I hesitate to bring this up, but there's one more argument in favor of Tim Kaine - a delicate one.
It's his excitable eyebrow. The one begging for Botox.
I've read that you're self-conscious about your ears. Kaine could take care of that.
Trust me, if you're running with The Brow, no one will ever again notice your ears.
In closing, let me say that Virginia has waited a long time to see one of our guys on the ticket. If you decide against Kaine, do us all a favor and take another look at Jim Webb. Please.
Your friend in Virginia,
Kerry

Vice Presidents
Reread the article, Kerry was speaking of Vice Presidents from Virginia, not Presidents.
Kerry you get paid for this????
Kerry gets paid to do this kind of slopping reporting??????
The last president we had that was from VA was Woodrow Wilson !
Thomas Woodrow Wilson was born in Staunton, Virginia in 1856 as the third of four children of Reverend Dr. Joseph Ruggles Wilson (1822–1903) and Jessie Janet Woodrow
Money to my pocket
I wrote using various points, plainly, & clearly why change is vital. Sorry if any one had difficulty understanding my illustrations. If one refuses to acknowledge our past, one really will have problems with most advances in society. I, as I had my first paying job at age 5, have earned everything I have. I served my country,(both in the military & as a supervisor in nuclear energy), I served my community,(police dept., narcotics division), I served my family, (4 children, all sent to college & graduated) & as a child to help my parents by working, studying & performing well enough to receive a complete academic & athlectic scholarship to college. I didn't grant any of you the right to attempt to insult me. I have only stated facts, without stooping to insults. I expect the same.
Now that was out in left field....
What does "present" NObama being empty on substance have to do with anything one poster has to say about history? Talk about diversion of the facts but that is what I would expect from this person. Recalling serfdom, voting rights and hotdogs? It is obvious what this person stands for and it isn't equality or reason. It amounts to taxpayer funded "change" in his pocket and nothing else. (Swaaaaay your arms)
Naysayers
All of you naysayers on "change"; change is the main reason you are able to voice or print your opinion, freely. Without change, everyday people, not born of the Gentry, couldn't own property. We'd all be serfs, working on some lords estate. Women, of any ethnicity, couldn't vote. I, & all such as I, couldn't eat a hot dog at the store lunch counter. Get with the 21st century. Do you still use a "Brothers" to write your posts & then send them to the Pilot via USPS? Do you still travel primarily by horse & buggy? If you say yes to these things, then perhaps you are Amish? But if you were, you couldn't use your "Brothers" or your PC.
Here we go again...
Change, change, change (sway your arms in the air to the music) with nothing concrete as an alternative. One who buys into that ideology is usually a prime candidate for all those "revolutionary" products that cost $19.99 or get rich quick out of your home schemes if you now what I mean.
Mr. Asner!
When you take a subprime mortgage with a huge balloon payment coming due, that is all in your paperwork that you are supposed to read before signing. People do graduate high school knowing how to read, yes?
People don't lose their houses due to their lenders going out of business or into bankruptcy. Those loans just get bought by other banks.
I really fail to see what was *not* disclosed to people in the housing bubble. I listened to Suze Orman last night and the main source of angst from her viewers was how to keep both their house and their vacation house from going into foreclosure until the prices come up enough to choose to sell one of them. If someone buys a vacation home on a subprime loan with a balloon payment, I have to say they took their risk and I hope they will have to live with the consequences themselves. Cheers, MGM
CB your idea of government is steal from the taxpayer.. that is
OK
Actually, with the environmental cissies we are facing the public best wise up. My sincere hope for my children and yours is that your way of government has no leg to stand on. Obviously, you have no care for what the priorities have to be to exist on this earth in the future. Simply put, read, Fuel Cell; Hydrogen to name one; the technology is here and ready. A good friend said to me; don't try and match wits with an un-witted person; I wholeheartedly agree. You won’t read you would rather deny because you are just afraid of change
Priorities eh...
Every "priority" must be accompanied with a solution of how it is to be accomplished. So, what sustainable alternative fuels? Who pays for Universal health care? Are we talking redeployment of troops not bringing them home now? Who pays for the ill advised overspenders besides themselves? The upper 25% already pay about 80% of all income taxes so what would be more balanced? How does one "force" companies to stay in the US and what does costly "green" tech have to do with that? Honestly, government was not meant to be mommy and daddy as you would wish. I can only laugh at the racial charges, they are truly rich but they do offer some insight into your outlook on life.
Not children; mis-informed and are saying they were not mis-led?
Why; because the present administration and GOP who controlled the other branches of government of the first four years did nothing to educate neither public nor put any regiment into place to hold these loaning institutions accountable. Just watch where the money tail ends up when a true justice department comes into play. Don't get me started on private non-bid government contracts to GOP Favourites. In fact, Republicans don't have right to say a word insofar as what this administration has done to this country. Immoral and corrupt and you cannot deny it. These are just two points of darkness
