Coast Guard urges maritime workers to get ID cards

Posted to: Business

The Coast Guard is urging maritime workers who have not yet applied for a new federal maritime ID card to apply as soon as possible.

The Coast Guard said Friday that, beginning in January, port workers probably will need the Transportation Worker Identification Credential for unescorted access to secure areas of terminals and vessels.

The Transportation Security Administration has established enrollment centers in Chesapeake and Newport News. More information on the cards can be found at www.tsa.gov/twic or by calling 1-866-347-8942.
