They're trading places at Dare County Schools.

John Donlan, who had lead Nags Head Elementary School since its opening in 2006, will return to First Flight Middle School as its head, the district announced this week.

He'll be switching positions with Adrienne Palma, who has been a principal and assistant principal for the middle school in Donlan's absence.

"Going to First Flight Middle School is like going home, and now I'm ready to make the transition from Wave Rider to Sea-hawk," Donlan said in a statement from the district.

Palma, who spent five years as an assistant elementary principal in Robeson County, said in the statement that she will use her experience at First Flight to help prepare the younger students for middle school.

The district opened Nags Head Elementary to ease crowding at two other beach schools. The principal switch takes effect July 15.
