The Department of Motor Vehicles will offer Colonial Williamsburg-themed license plates next year.

Colonial Williamsburg Foundation officials say they have enough prepaid applications to proceed with a license plate that will feature a drawing of the colonial Capitol. DMV requires 350 applications to issue a specialized plate, and Colonial Williamsburg reached that number on Monday.

Officials say that after the applications are sent to the state at the end of the week, it will take about nine months for DMV to issue the $25 plates. After the sale of $1,000 worth of plates, the DMV returns $15 from each plate fee to the historic attraction.
