We welcome your opinion on public issues, in either of two ways. You can submit a letter to the editor for possible publication in the printed edition. The Virginian-Pilot welcomes letters to the editor on all topics, although concise letters (150 words or less) on public issues will receive priority. Letters may be edited for length, style and clarity and writers are limited to one published letter every month. Please add your name, city, street address and daytime telephone number for confirmation.
The other way is to comment on the published letters in this blog. In this online forum, you can comment as much as you want by using the comment box at the end of each entry.

KeithB decries about Republicans about Taxes
When it is this Governor who took office with a known Budget Surplus in the Transportation Budget and then Stole it OOPS I mean reappropriate the money for a taxpayer funded babysitting service and then have the nerve to declare that we now have a deficit in the transportation budget and can't fix the roads without a Tax increase to fund it. This is the height of arrogance to spend the money for roads and demand more through another tax increase. Yes the republicans did raise taxes but they did not remove it from one part of the state budget and then demand more money to replace it. TAX and spend Kane and his buddies in Richmond are a good example with what is wrong with this country and that is continuing to spend money you know you don't have then expecting someone else to bail you out for the bad decision. Keith sooner or later you need to stop drinking the Liberal Democrat kool-aid package and think for yourself. You are not allowed to run your household this way so why do you allow government to do so??
johnbo decries: "Tax and Spend Democrats"
Republicans don't hate taxes. They love taxes. The only solution they had for a roads bill was an unconstitutional taxing authority. The right wingers love bringing up Warner's tax hike but they conveniently leave out the fact that the supposed largest tax hike in VA's history was republican approved.
saving money
Maybe some of the legislators want to stop funding procedures for transgendered folks and other such nonsense before we raise taxes. Virginia's budget should be managed like a home budget - work with what you have, not what you want.

Maybe if the Tax and Spend Democrats would show that they are even trying to maintain some sort of finicial responsibility then it wouldn't be such a problem with gridlock in Richmond but why should we reward the Tax and spend Crowd with more again? When you Start at the top and have a Govoner who takes money from a budget surplus in the transportation budget and uses it to fund Pork Barrel babysitting and then has the nerve to ask the taxpayers for a tax increase for road repairs because now we do not have enough money to do necessary road repairs I call this at best wrongful misappropiation of funds if not theft, and say that if we as indiduvial are held to a standard of living within a budget to pay our bills then our State Goverment should do the same. I am not saying the republicians in the senate did any better but at some point it has to stop. You can only bleed the average taxpayer s much you can't get blood from a rock and both parties need to stop this useless wasteful spending and learn to govern and operate within a set budget.
