Flights will increase at Oceana, Fentress in July

VIRGINIA BEACH

Flight operations at Oceana Naval Air Station and Fentress Naval Auxiliary Landing Field in Chesapeake will increase considerably during the second week of July, the Navy announced Tuesday.

Eight squadrons from Oceana and two squadrons from Chambers Field in Norfolk will be preparing for an upcoming training exercise at sea. Flights will increase during the day and at night.

Jet Noise Sucks

Enough said!

I agree alfarkas. .

It's particularly stupid for the DOD to waste money looking for an OLF, as it's already known the JSF (F-35) will NOT be stationed at Oceana, so it will no longer be a MJB. Some people confuse the jets leaving and the base closing, and that's not true. The jets will be relocated, and Oceana will remain open as other things are done there.

More Jet Noise over PAP

The jets don't belong over the city regardless of who was here first (stupid arguement anyway). Why is the Navy so inflexible over training? Oh yeah, "it's how we've always done it." Look at a map and give us one good reason why the Super Hornets have to fly over Bow Creek Golf Course 14 hours a day (just like almost every day this past June). BRAC said it best "...NAS Oceana is not the future of naval aviation..." Starting next week Princess Anne Plaza is.

This sucks. . .

I can't wait for the F-35 to come out so all the jets will be moved out of Oceana, as it will no longer be a MJB.

"With them flying overhead

"With them flying overhead we may be the safest city in the world!"

Dead wrong. Anytime a country is attacked the very first targets are utilities and airfields. The closer you are to a master jet base the more of a target you are.

There is no doubt the traffic and the chance of a crash are higher near the fields. The jets go up and down, and are often in holding patterns awaiting their turn. In addition, the jets bank and as they do so they makea sharp hooking turn. The idea that there is a more likely palce to have a crash than a taining field is far fetched. I do commend the person near Fentress who loves the jets. It is my sincere hope you get to keep all of the operations. Enjoy your summer. You should with the increased operations.

It's only a matter of time

before some poor golfer is struck by lightening while standing on a fareway at Redwing. Don't be suprised when IT haooens either.

Good comments

Haven't heard too many bad comments toward Oceana in the recent months. Ever since the talk of us leaving died down a little, everyone seems to be happy. Just remember, Oceana won't be there forever. It's extremely frustrating for us to train and prepare ourselves for upcoming deployments at times. Many (not all) of us would like to leave and make everyone happy. Some never wanted to leave Cecil Field to begin with. At least they are our jets that are flying overhead.

GOOD!

I live under the Fentress flight path and am more than glad to hear them anytime of day! My only complaint is that they don't do any cool tricks or fly close enough to the ground once in a while! Come on and give us a little show! But seriously, they really don't bother us - and that goes for our cats as well. We never wake up when they fly at night and we don't have problems getting to sleep either. I am not concerned with them crashing on our neighborhood any more than I would be concerned about an accident of that magnitude occuring while I am at the beach and they fly over.

It is only a matter of time

before they crash one of these jets into a residential neighborhood. Don't be surprised when it happens.

You mean the sound of a jet flying isn't heard around the world?

Some would have you think that.

Actually, what I want to ask is, doesn't the training operations take them over Norfolk and other areas? I thought only the touch and gos were limited to Oceana and Fentress.

Norfolk Here<

I'm in line with NAS Norfolk's flight path and they do change it up and touch and go here as well. But it's still not as bad as a C5 at 2AM!

Norfolk and Chesapeake?

Oceana is in Va. Beach. Doesn't the Virginian Pilot know that?

Good! We know we have the jobs

I love Navy Jets making noise, it sounds more like cha-ching to the local businesses. With them flying overhead we may be the safest city in the world!
Go Navy!

Norfolk???

Why does Norfolk care about jets flying at Oceana?

there are no jets

we just imagine/think we see them.
