Access to the Old Cape Henry Lighthouse is through the military base, so visitors age 16 and older need identification and your car is subject to search.

Hours of the lighthouse: Nov. 1 through March 15, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 16 through Oct. 31, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Web site.

Fort Story - officially "Joint Expeditionary Base-Fort Story" - is an old World War I base that is now a major transportation center for the Army. The base contains a number of historic attractions including the First Landing Cross, which marks where the first English settlers landed on April 20, 1607; the Old Cape Henry Lighthouse, the oldest government owned lighthouse; and the site of the Battle of the Capes, an important battle in the Revolutionary War.
