A friend of Meyera's? Not if you're running to be mayor

As much as I have disagreed w/ the mayor in the past, you will be hard pressed to find someone who puts the time and effort into this job. I truly think those complaining will be complaing just as much if someone else were to be elected. You know she cannot make a move without the votes from other council members. Could you be placing too much emphasis on a person who does not wield that much power? Everytime a new member is elected the same people take up bashing them as well. You would have to be delusional to want to represent VB.

They say that articles like this one generally bring comments from those who have strong "anti" feelings, while those of us who love the VB status quo would tend to remain silent. Okay, so I will speak up! I wouldn't mind considering the title "mayor for life" for VB, if you, faithful leader, were to have it! Cheers, MGM

Sessom's is no friend to the taxpayer. The fact that he was on the Mayor's list of "friends" further points out how similar Sessoms was in his past voting record and vision on how the city of Virginia Beach should be run. Sessoms is NOT a choice for change or fiscal constraint. Now his former "friends" call him a backstabber. Can anyone trust him?

The only real choice for Mayor would be John Moss. The co-founder and chairman of the VBTA has a concrete record of pressuring council and the city manager to reduce the property taxes on homes. As printed in the Pilot, Moss challanged the heavy handed Machine & Tools tax that would have greatly jeopardized thousands of jobs in VB.
Do a favor for the city of Virginia Beach. Vote for John Moss!

Re-Elect No One!

.... it's now been at least two days since you were informed of the flagrant misuse of Mr. Sessom's name, AND IT'S STILL ONLINE!!! You have a very basic Web site. It would take any sixth-grader about four minutes to update that list and upload it to the Web. What, exactly, keeps you so occupied? I bet if I sent in one of those $100 checks for Meyera's campaign, it wouldn't take you 2-3 days to cash it -- and that would require SIGNIFICANTLY more time on your part.

Just another eye-opening reason why it's time for a complete overhaul of VB City Council, starting with your wife. By the way: For every day you DON'T fix your "friends" list, I and my friends will donate $100 to Sessom's campaign. Seriously. Let's see how fat we can grow his bankroll because of your refusal to do the right thing in a timely fashion.

If you seek real change in our city and a strong advocate for lower taxes and a better City Council focused on improving our 965 neighborhood instead of ddoling out millions for endless corporate welfare "investments" for influential business owners, then please vote for John Moss for Mayor! If you want more of the same, then vote for Mayor Oberndorf or Will Sessoms. John Moss has already served on City Council an has the experience for successfully dealing with a budget over $1B. John's expereince will be very valuable as he works to reform a very broken budgeting process. *** MOSS 4 MAYOR *** - that's the ticket!

The Obendorf's have done a great job over the past twenty years in Virginia Beach. But, I think this article is just another example that they are old and out of touch. Twenty years is a long time, IT IS TIME FOR A CHANGE VOTE SESSOMS 2008!

Gee, you don't have to wonder who the Pilot board is supporting for Mayor in Virginia Beach.

All in the name of news........

I've lived here for more than thirty years and when I saw our mayor on television, following the "greek week" destruction of our ocean front, wringing her hands and whining about not wanting to be seen as racist I started asking friends if they had voted for her. Only one of my friends will admit to voting for her... once. I'm sure MS Oberndorf is a fine person, but we need forward thinking leadership. Let's get rid of the cob webs in city government and move our beautiful city into the twenty-first century.

In the pilot article it quotes her husband stating "I haven't had a chance to do anything with it," yet he has had ample time to update the homepage of the website to state To All Residents of Virginia Beach...
"I will be a candidate for re-election during the November 2008 election. I would greatly appreciate your continued support." Meyera.

Of course they are not going to update her friends page until they have to, a vast majority of the names listed are Will Sessoms supporters.

Make one wonder...

Thank you for correcting that headline. I was worried that a variant of the English language had become acceptable at the Pilot.

I'm really surprised this is a news story but given Sessoms history, I shouldn't have been surprised...

Sessoms will use every little thing he can to discredit anyone that stands in his way just like he did during the twelve years he served on city council before running away from the voters in 2002. I had hopes this race would be about positive issues but as we see here, the Sessoms camp is already pointing fingers trying to make other candidates look bad.

If I were working the web site for the Mayor, I'd have a page that lists back stabbing former supporters and friends. Guess whose name would be first on that list? Answer: Will Sessoms. Enough said...

The headline "A friend of Meyera's? Not if you're running be mayor" is very poor. Is this the product of a local university?

With all the names on the ballot, the Mayor has nothing to worry about.....

The citizens on the other hand have plenty to worry about.

Here's hoping for a push for term limits before the next election.......

The Mother of Virginia Beach is running again? You all must be so proud, with all that room for continued growth towards Oceana and that once open and beautiful coast line. Good Luck Mayor and have fun!
