YORKTOWN

Police have identified the Hampton woman fatally injured Saturday in a two-vehicle crash on Hampton Highway.

Denelle Hernandez, 27, of the 700 block of Ashleigh Drive was killed in Saturday's wreck on Hampton Highway at Saint Clair Circle, near Big Bethel Road, said Virginia State Police spokeswoman Michelle Cotten. Hernandez was an active duty member of the Navy, Cotten said.

Authorities responded to the crash at about 3:30 p.m., and found a Honda Civic that had been hit broadside by a Chevrolet Tahoe, Cotten said.

Investigators determined the Tahoe was traveling southbound on Hampton Highway when the Civic pulled into its path, Cotten said.

Hernandez died of her injuries on the way to Riverside Regional Medical Center, Cotten said.
