NEWPORT NEWS

Workers have finished repairing a problem that caused the James River Bridge to get stuck in the open position for more than an hour, and the bridge is now reopen for traffic, said Virginia State Police spokeswoman Michelle Cotten.

The bridge got stuck at 1:44 p.m., Cotten said. Drivers trying to get from Newport News to Isle of Wight and vice-versa were being directed onto I-664 and Route 17, a detour of a little more than 10 miles.

JRB Stuck again

my personal gripe is why do they open it for personal watercraft in the first place? i travel it daily and sometimes it opens up for a sailboat that appears to have an astronomical amount of clearence topside. my daughter and i were totaly at a loss when we witnessed this several weeks ago.

The problem?

I'll tell you what the problem is. It's the same lack of maintenance on the roads and other bridges around this area for lack of money and lack of government interest. If the state weren't spending our money like drunken sailors, maybe we'd have some to maintain and improve these transportation infrastructures. Instead, because of budget shortfalls, you want to tax us to death to try and make up the difference and still there's no guarantee that the money will go towards these intended projects.
