CHESAPEAKE
A judge will take under advisement a motion to annul a dog fighting conviction against Alfred C. Taylor Jr., who was arrested two years ago after police removed 17 pit bulls from his rural Chesapeake home.
Taylor, 54, was found guilty of dog fighting in December 2006 after a bench trial in Chesapeake Circuit Court. His new attorney, Robert Kowalsky Jr., asked Friday that the conviction be set aside because of what he contends is a flawed indictment and insufficient evidence.
Judge V. Thomas Forehand Jr. will consider the motion. Taylor, who is free on bond, is scheduled to return to court in September.
During Taylor's one-day trial, Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Amy James produced evidence she says is consistent with the training and fighting of dogs, such as anti-inflammatory drugs, a surgical wound stapler and dog fighting literature. Ten dogs seized at Taylor's home had signs of healed wounds.
Taylor's former girlfriend, Lisa Washington, was sentenced in 2007 to three years in prison on dog fighting and drug charges.

You hit it on the head Jason
Why print an article about a motion. Defense attorneys present those all the time, it is there job to challenge the evidence. If the defense attorney wins or loses, print the result.
RE: Let vick go to
WHY?
Vick
Let's treat Vick and anyone else involved in dog fighting with the same gentleness and compassion as they treated the dogs. We have two complete different cases where one is high profile and the other is just your everyday run of the mill citizen. The prosecuter has the evidence but the judge is not bright enough to know that.
Are they going to list every motion made in court?
Are they going to print every motion made in the local courts? Think maybe it would be more news if it was an actually court decision?
Of course the real reason non-news like this gets a high profile. It's about dog fighting and that's a shock topic these days. The only point is to get people riled up and repeat the same arguments as last time.
RE: budnbar57
Sir, you fail to see the full impact of what Vick did. First, he went on National TV and stated he was not invovled in dog fighting. Vick, was not only invovled, he was the bank role for the whole operation. Look at the house and land he purchased out in the rural area. The kennel set up at the house was bigger than some SPCA's. Vick had dog matches with "breeders"( fighters) from other states. The money bet on some of these matches was more than what some people earn for a living in a year. Futhermore, Vick killed alot of the dogs just because the dogs did not perform to his "Badnewz" kennel standards. I wonder why Atlanta fans could not get a refund when Vick performed poorly on Sundays or maybe they should have just slammed him to the ground. Vick went to jail for more than dog fighting, he went to jail for lying, money laundering, and for just being plain dumb. All that talent wasted on mindless entertain
He wasn't cake baking....
with that equipment and I'm hoping it wasn't just the equipment that got him the trouble. Lets be serious. That many dogs of that type point to something. But I'd hope there's more to the story we're not hearing. And no, don't let him walk around. I don't want anyone fighting dogs to get any different treatment than Vick did.
vick
Did not deserve gentleness or compassion. There is no comparison between the cases. Vick is right where he belongs.....in jail!
Dog Fighting Charges
I wish we could have treated Mike Vick with this much gentleness and compassion.....Nooooo, we had to slam him over something so stupid as dogfighting. I do not agree with dogfighting, but it hasn't made any difference in my life and my neighborhood and my city. So what's the point. Treat this guy the same with all the fines, etc. or let him go....Let Vick go, too.
time being served?
This article fails to say if either guilty parties has been serving jail or has been out walking the streets living the good life. Sure would have been nice to include this important detail wouldn't it?
