July 4th should be clear of rain; Saturday and Sunday may see showers

Posted to: Weather

The only showers in the sky today should be of the fireworks-induced variety.

The National Weather Service is calling for a less than 20 percent chance of rain today,

But it’s best to wear your breeziest outfit and dressiest flip-flops whenever you go to catch a fireworks display tonight: meteorologists are calling for highs in the mid-90s.

There will be some smoke today in the area from wildfires, partcularly in Norfolk and Chesapeake, said Jennifer McNatt, a meterologist with the National Weather Service in Wakefield.

The rest of the weekend holds the prospect of rain.

Saturday and Sunday, the chance of precipitation increases to 40 percent.

There won’t be any relief from the heat until Sunday.

Highs on Saturday will be around 90 degrees; on Sunday, highs will be from 85 to 90 degrees.
