Lovett, Winston among performers for '08-09 Sandler season

VIRGINIA BEACH

 The Commodores will open the second season at the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts. The R&B veterans perform Sept. 19 at the Town Center venue. The 2008-09 concentrates mostly on music, but includes dance, comedy and family entertainment.

- Political comedy ensemble the Capitol Steps, Sept. 28.

- Mandolin master David Grisman, Oct. 5.

- Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt, Oct. 18.

- “Phantom Tollbooth,” family-oriented musical, Oct. 29.

- Violinist Midori, Nov. 1.

- Pianist George Winston, Nov. 3.

- Blues legend Buddy Guy, Nov. 21.

- Country star Vince Gill, Nov. 22.

- Vocal ensemble The King’s Singers, Dec. 12.

- Composer and pianist Jim Brickman, Dec. 22.

- “The Magic Treehouse,” a new, Broadway-style musical, Jan. 13.

- The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra led by trumpeter Wynton Marsalis, Jan. 17.

- The all-male Les Ballets Trockadero, Jan. 29.

- “100 Years of Broadway,” with pianist Neil Berg and a cast of Broadway performers, Feb. 11.

- The Trinity Irish Dance Company, March 13.

- Pop icon Art Garfunkel, April 16.
