The Mariners' Museum is one of the largest international maritime museums in the world featuring more than 35,000 maritime pieces from ship models, scrimshaw, figureheads to steam engines and more. The museum houses photography collections, a library and archives and special collections.

The museum also houses a Native American exhibit that includes a dugout canoe from 1630, one of the few Indian vessels discovered.

One of the museum's highlights is new USS Monitor Center featuring priceless artifacts from the Civil War ironclad and the story on how those artifacts were recovered. Visitors can see artifacts from the ship as well as some of the crew's personal belongings.

This place is really super. I especially liked seeing the conservation of the Monitor artifacts. The world class facility they have built is fabulous! The movies are great. Super place to take the family!

THIS IS A VERY NICE PLACE TO VISIT. I dind't think I would enjoy it at first, but it was sooooo much to see and read...I had no other choice. It is also very quiet. I really enjoyed the titanic display the most. It is easy to get "caught up" and spend 30 minutes in one area before you even realize it.

Interesting place which teaches so much and was a real pleasure. Will go back again and again to follow all the projects in progress. Lunch at the snack bar pretty tasty too.

NICE LAYOUT AND FACILITIES, BUT AM APPALLED AT WHAT THEY ARE DOING WITH THE TURRET OF THE MONITOR. WENT ESPECIALLY TO SEE IT AND FOUND IT OUTSIDE IN THE ELEMENTS AND HARDLY VISIBLE IN ITS TANK. THEY COULD TAKE SOME CLUES FROM THE HUNLEY ORG. IN CHARLESTON, SC.
