The Mariners' Museum is one of the largest international maritime museums in the world featuring more than 35,000 maritime pieces from ship models, scrimshaw, figureheads to steam engines and more. The museum houses photography collections, a library and archives and special collections.
The museum also houses a Native American exhibit that includes a dugout canoe from 1630, one of the few Indian vessels discovered.
One of the museum's highlights is the USS Monitor Center featuring priceless artifacts from the Civil War ironclad and the story on how those artifacts were recovered. Visitors can see artifacts from the ship as well as some of the crew's personal belongings.
