RICHMOND
The gubernatorial campaign of Brian Moran on Monday reported receiving $1.38 million in donations during the first six months of the year.
His campaign made the announcement in a written statement.
An Alexandria Democrat in the House of Delegates, Moran is seeking the party nomination for the 2009 governor’s race.
The statement boasts that his fundraising total surpasses the money raised during a comparable period in 2004 by Gov. Timothy M. Kaine, who took in $1.24 million.
“Brian’s strong performance lays the groundwork for an impressive statewide finance effort and a successful campaign,” campaign official Mame Reiley said in the written statement
Fundraising totals for the other two men running for governor – Attorney General Bob McDonnell, a Republican, and state Sen. Creigh Deeds, D-Bath – were not available Monday.
July 15 is the filing deadline for campaign financial disclosure statements from the reporting period that ended June 30.
A representative for McDonnell said the campaign will release figures later this week.
The Deeds campaign said the senator’s paperwork would be filed by July 15.
Virginians for Brian Moran raised $990,000 raised during this cycle, according to the campaign staff.
Another $393,000 was contributed to the campaign by another political action committee connected to Moran.
A frequent campaigner, Moran has visited localities across the state in recent months to raise money and awareness for his bid, including a June 25 fundraiser in Virginia Beach.
As of July 1, his campaign had $800,000 on hand.
