A father charged with felony child neglect in the death of his nine-month-old daughter appeared in court Thursday morning.

Jeremy Adam Kelly appeared in Norfolk Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court for arraignment and was assigned a court-appointed attorney, according to Amanda Howie, spokeswoman for the Norfolk Commonwealth Attorney's office.

A bond hearing is now scheduled for July 8 and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 24.

On Wednesday morning at 2:15 officers responded to a call of a drowned infant in the 1100 block of W. Ocean View Ave., according to police spokeswoman Karen Parker-Chesson.

Kelly, the infant's father, has been charged, according to Parker-Chesson. Court documents show his birth date as July 3, 1974, making him 34. Police earlier released his age as 38.

The child's mother has not been charged.

The drowning happened in a bathtub in the home, Parker-Chesson said. She did not release any additional details.

The investigation is ongoing.
