Norfolk Southern at odds with NTSB ruling

Posted to: Business Norfolk Southern

Norfolk Southern Corp. said Friday that it "strongly disagrees" with the National Transportation Safety Board's determination that "inadequate" rail inspection and maintenance by the Norfolk-based railroad led to the fiery derailment of an ethanol train in Pennsylvania in 2006.

Norfolk Southern said it will file a formal petition that incorporates newly available inspection data. The safety board is the federal body in charge of investigating transportation accidents. There were no injuries or fatalities in the accident that occurred on a bridge near Pittsburgh.
