NORFOLK

Firefighters battled two residential fires this morning, one of which is being called suspicious.

A fire department dog sniffed out flammable liquids at a home that burned at 3:35 a.m. in the 3200 block of Marne Ave., said Jack Goldhorn, spokesman for Norfolk Fire-Rescue.

Firefighters had the blaze under control in about 20 minutes, but the home was heavily damaged, Goldhorn said.

The home was vacant, Goldhorn added. Investigators are asking anyone with information about the blaze to call Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.

The second fire, in an apartment in the 3100 block of Pleasant Ave., was called in to dispatchers by a neighbor shortly after 7 a.m., they said.

That fire, confined to a kitchen, is being called an accident, Goldhorn said. No one was home at the time it began.
