Two of the men involved in a shooting at a Sonic restaurant in Carrollton Thursday are in stable condition and one has been released from the hospital.

James T. Outlaw, a 20-year-old from Smithfield, was released from Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News Friday, said hospital spokesman Peter Glacola. Jamario Louis Harper and Cedric Donell Smith, both 19-year-olds from Newport News, remained in stable condition at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, said hospital spokeswoman Sandra Miller. She said she did not know when they would be released.

The three men were wounded during a gunfire exchange Thursday that resulted in the death of Tyrone Ramone Seaborne, an 18-year-old from Smithfield. Officers with the Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office recovered two guns from the scene, where shell casings indicated a possible third gun’s involvement, Don Robertson, an Isle of Wight County spokesman, said in an e-mail.

Harper and Smith were in a burgundy Jeep Cherokee and Seaborne and Outlaw were in a white Honda Accord when the gunfire exchange occurred, he said.

No charges had been filed as of Friday afternoon but the sheriff plans to consult with the Commonwealth’s Attorney Monday to determine what charges will be filed, Robertson said.

I would still like to know

I would still like to know where the guns involved came from and if the were legal or illegal. I don't think we can focus on this problem until we know these facts.

Sorry old bean

I assume that since you commented on the original post by "patriot" and called it "spot on" that you supported his obvious point and silly logic.

My bad.

Now I see you were just pointing out that the United States isn't an island - I'm sure a lot of posters here didn't know that - and that there will always be violence. Thought-provoking stuff.

Cheerio, MGK

Missed and twisted point!

Typical tactic to divert attention from the point often utilized when said point nullifies any argument from the opposition.

medical treatment

who pays for the hospital bills???

Ptown88

Why did you stop there. Your one-track mind should be thrown in the garbage bin with everything else you have said. MY argument, if you was reading correctly, was pointing out the fact that even that music(Hip Hop)is around, of course some lyrics are horrible to listen to BUT, it does not define me.That music does not INSTRUCT me to go out to do any of the things they say.Are YOU still wearing those rainbow colors from the 60's amd 70's. Your home sets those morals. What are you setting at home for your children. Exactly...another compalint made with no solution, without taking overship because " its not my problem" This area is pathetic.

Maynard!

Not sure to whom you're responding, something you saw somewhere else?
Someone included an article on knife violence in Britain and I commented that there is knife violence in Japan, too, because guns are pretty heavily controlled in both places. People are people--when they fight, they're going to find a weapon, even, as you say a baseball bat.
I surely was not connecting any dots to the U.S., where we have pretty much everything available a thug could want for a fight, and always will have (because we have an open border with Canada and a porous border with Mexico and Central and South America). Even if we were to control *rocks* in the U.S., they would get in from somewhere else. We are not Great Britain nor Japan, we are not an island. That was my point. Sorry if it seemed that I was being alarmist about knives or baseball bats in the U.S. Never crossed my mind. MGM

Liberals can't make this stuff up

The guns nuts have topped their old mark and set a new standard for silly logic.

To wit:

If we regulate guns, we will face a wave of knife violence.

OMG. Imagine - knife violence instead of gun violence. The implications are downright frightening.

You know those nasty liberals will want to outlaw knives next. Then we will be hit by a wave of baseball bat violence.

The cycle of carnage and liberal knee jerk reactions will never end. Within less than a decade, we will be reduced to sticks and stones violence.

With logic like this, who needs the Comedy Channel?

Ridiculous comparison

Comparing Hip Hop to the Hippie Era made me laugh so hard. What a totally uneducated comparison.

I guess you need to define hip hop a bit better as a lot of us throw it in the same garbage bin as thug rap and that sort of useless rubbish. Where is the culture in music that simply glorifies materialism, legitimizes baby mommas vs family life, and celebrates putting bullets a cops?

Patriot!

Your British comment was, well, spot on, as they say.

We often mention Britain and Japan as examples of wonderfully controlled countries with no gun violence. Umm, let's see. They're islands, so, until now, those bad boy weapons needed to be smuggled in via boats or planes.

Japan also is facing a wave of knife violence, just like Britain. I predict the next phase will be guns in Britain because the Chunnel has pretty much connected them to mainland Europe.

Not sure where the knives are coming from in Japan, unless they are using legitimate martial arts knives for robberies. Cheers, MGM

SIMON THANK YOU

I am glad to hear some sense up here. To those of you that are dwelling on stats, WHAT are you doing to help this situation WE are ALL experiencing NOW. Quoting stats while you are letting TV and video games and your environment raise your kids will net you the same results. The Hip-Hop culture and its influence is no different then your Hippie revolution. THAT does NOT define you...RACE don’t define you. Your HOME does. That’s were the strength and character is built. We need to start taking responsibility for that and GET INTO OUR KIDS LIVES, know who their friends are. Provide more for them. It feels like I am pleading for something that should already be there. Let’s remove the word race here. If your kids are constantly in a negative environment…what’s the product?

"So you're saying you think

That he obtained it legally and had all the proper weapons safety training that hunters and sportsmen normally get? And he had all of that done while still in his teen years? I'm the one who's incredulous now . . . . Cheers,) "

That's not unusual in rural areas around there...or here. SimpleSimon, letter doesn't even make sense. Nice crutch though. Hope it's useful. Here's to hoping on my death bed I am not griping about what I could have done if others had let me.

Good grief(Charlie Brown).

It's the guns fault again!

I guess all you that believe no guns will stop violence and killing need to read this article.
Knife violence now British Police's #1 concern ahead of terrorism.

An over-simplification

If your only point is that black on black crime is a serious issue- point taken. No one disagrees, least of all the black community.

But your apparent suggestion that homicides are a "black" problem and not an "everyone" problem is remarkably short-sighted and, some might say, racist.

Many studies have shown a direct link between violent crime and poverty. In fact, it is the single greatest determinant of those crimes - not race.

I hope it is no surprise to you that the poverty rate hovers near 30 percent for Blacks and "Latinos" while it is under 10 percent for Whites. Is it possible that this income inequality, which has its roots in racism, plays a role in the statistics you decided to focus on?

Whites are slaughtering each other in nearly the same absolute numbers as Blacks. That makes it an “everyone” problem, and the solution is to find ways to address racism, poverty and gun control.

genisis26

I read your comments and I agree with not blaming any particular color of skin or gender. But unfortunately for the black community, all these stories we read every morning are about black on black crimes, violent crimes that usually end with someone covered by a sheet. These situations aren't just somebody with an agenda spouting off at the mouth, these are concrete examples. I'd like to see a background on all four involved ref to family upbringing. Whatever led up to the shooting, the fact remains that both vehicles had weapons in them. Which takes me back to the "more police" story of the July 3rd. Don't get mad with the police for thinking everyone has a gun, cause they/we probably do!! Stop sticking your head in the sand and address the problem. I've said before which I think causes my post to not be allowed, the NAACP of Hampton Roads needs to CRY OUT for help from their communties in stoppin

donm

Can you explain your comment?

Can't ignore facts

To genesis26 and all others who refuse to accept reality: According to Bureau of Justice statistics, between 1976 and 2005, blacks, while 13 percent of the population, committed over 52 percent of the nation’s homicides and were 46 percent of the homicide victims. Ninety-four percent of black homicide victims had a black person as their murderer. You CANNOT sit back and claim that violent crime is EVERYONE's problem without at least admitting that it is PREDOMINANTLY a racial problem. Why are you so surprised, when hip-hop culture and other influences on minority youth actually glorifies violence???? There needs to be a radical and immediate shift in how these kids are being raised -- and that, my friends, is not an EVERYONE problem or a problem that needs more government assistance.

medical care

these kids are in the hospital correct. how does the hospital get paid for their services? who pays for their treatment ?? i bet it will be the tax payer!!

I don't know how gun laws...

I don't know how gun laws ever got into this discussion, these thugs were breaking a bunch of laws before the first shot was fired, I can't imagine that one more law would have stopped them.

From the mouth

Darryl . . . straight from a law enforcement officer's mouth. Majority of stolen cars ending up in NN and northwestern Portsmouth. Ask the manager of the College Dr. Walmart who' stealing from his store. I'm awake and I'm tired of crime. My generation was taught by their parents to respect life, respect other people's rights and obey the law. Many of the kids today are not.

GeorgeS

You know exactly what your saying and exactly what your doing. Your being a troll. You only think your making others look like a fool...

Doesn't Matter

What city they came from, every city has a crime rate and with the economy they way it is it will only get worse. Doesn't matter what color they are a life was lost over something that was probably ridiculous. I LIVE IN PORTSMOUTH AND AM PROUD TO SAY SO, I GREW UP HERE AND I AM RAISING MY KIDS HERE,You have trash in every city of every color so you can't blame that. I still will blame the parents for not teaching their kids respect for themslevles, others, and life.

I'll be a dinosaur now . . .

I remember those old days when a lot of moms did not work but . . . they did not entertain us all summer either. Nor send us to camp, except one week of church camp in July.

As I recall, we girls got included in lots of spontaneous boys' baseball games in the vacant lot. All we needed was equipment and we set up our own game.

Or the girls made up a play with our dolls, Suzy Homemaker props, etc.

Or we read books together in my friend's cool basement before the days of universal airconditioning.

Is it me, or have we failed to teach several generations how to entertain themselves cheaply? Cheers, MGM

Choices and Responsibility

To me " thugs" do not have one skin color they are youth gone bad, white, black, brown, red. So Union man I disagree with you that this is limited to one race. It is a human issue.
That last post mentions the community failed them so thats why these young men chose to ride around with guns and have a gun fight in a public restaurant. Bollocks , they made the choice, the wrong choice and it is their fault. Stop blaming the "system" for these issues. Its freedom of choice.
God gave us all freedom to choose between right and wrong , hell and heaven. What we aren't teaching our children is that life consists of choices and with choices comes consequences. Some consequences can lead to early death and hell.
We must face facts we have an immoral society and a moral society. Which one do you chose to live in?
If your heros and friends are into drugs, violence and other negative behaviors what will you become?

here we go again

more losers blaming the gun rather than the thugs who were using it.
Let the thugs keep shooting each other up and hopefully our future prison populations will decline accordingly.

I want a new law enacted, if your juvenile kids commit felony crimes then you and your kid will do the jail time!

(Look to virginia beach last week. A dirtbag (from newport news, imagine that) tries to rob a pizza shop. The owner repeatedly tells the perp the money is in the register, but the perp tells him to open the safe. he does, and the perp rapidly assumes room temperature, with a couple of rounds to the chest.)

I wonder how long gun advocates will use the pizza owner as the poster child for gun rights.

For Georges......

This is a shame, seeing young people hurting and killing themselves. I would be willing to bet that they got the guns illegally. Last I heard, breaking into a house and stealing was a crime. That should be enforced, not more gun laws.

That was strict gun control in progress.....hitting your target under stress.

Where they from?

The morning paper online says two of the suspect/victims went to Smithfield High. This may be a solvable crime.....everyone who was doing the shooting got shot themselves.

You need to wake up son.
